Why Is It Important To Carefully Pick Out A Child’s Toy
Playing is what a child does most of the day. Even if the child is merely running inside the house laughing and raising his arms in the air, he is still at play. Some toys are uninteresting to adults, but these toys are a wonderland for children. Great toys are those which help a child recognize how things are done and make him mentally curious. Toys also teach kids how to interact with other kids.
By letting kids play with him or playing with other kids, your child is learning how to be sociable. The toys that a parent has to look out for are those with tiny parts that can be easily swallowed, choking the child to death. Choking is one of the reasons why a parent has to watch over her child even while playing. Young children, especially those under 8 months, love toys that are colorful and rattles. During these years, the child will appreciate baby rattles and musical toys.
When the child enters 12 months to 18 months, he is already trying to get to know how to work with his fingers, hands, arms and legs. In order to help him figure out how to effectively use his fingers and hands, you should get him stackable toys or stackable rings. Also, a toy house with different shaped holes and shaped objects which can be inserted in the shaped holes is also wonderful to teach him about colors and shapes. It will also teach him how to skillfully use his fingers and hands by picking up the shape and inserting it in the hole of the right shape.
Books with objects and their names can also be given to the child so that early on, he will know what the things around him are called. You will soon be amazed that your child can already recognize the things inside the house. He may not yet be able to speak its name, but you will know that he recognizes the things when he points to them and gets excited.
No matter what toy you pick for your child, be sure that it is durable and cannot be taken apart in tiny parts. Wooden toys are perfect for children below 18 months because no matter how hard the toy is thrown or bumped on the floor, it would not lose its shape.
