Which is the Best Shower Screen for You?
If you have every looked at shower screens or shower bath screens you will know that there are a multitude of choices. From expensive toughened glass bath screens through to low-price, low quality flimsy plastic screens. So what is the best way to go about selecting the best screen for your bathroom?
At the cheaper end of the scale you will find shower screens and shower bath screens that are made with visual appeal in mind. While they may look good they are often manufacured from cheap materials and components. Cheap shower bath screens can often exhibit problems with flimsy frames, leakage and thin, plastic components.
At the expensive end of the scale you will find screens that use top quality, toughened glass with high quality, corrosion resistant metal frames that can be adjusted to fit a variety of baths and showers.
The first thing to consider is what will fit your shower or your shower bath. You may find that your choices are limited. If possible I recommend that you visit a showroom where you can see a range of bathroom suites and screens displayed. Test each thoroughly and be certain that the screen opens smoothly and that all the components are good quality.
I always recommend toughened glass over plastic. Plastic can quickly become scratched and dull whereas glass wil stay good for many years.
Toughened glass is a must. But don’t be swayed by the thickness of the glass. The important factor is that the glass is toughened and certified for use in the bathroom. The thicker the glass the more costly the shower screen, and they are heavier and more difficult to install.
As a rule I would avoid the cheaper end of the scale as these will often be a false economy, requiring replacement in only a few short years. Spend a little more money and get yourself a shower screen that will last.
