Several million generators for home use are bought and sold each year. Every home would do well to have one just in case. They are easy to buy and there are some very good deals available, take your time choosing.
Don’t wait until an emergency. Your investment will pay you back over many years. as long as you just do basic simple maintenance on your home generator, There are a lot to choose from.
Remember that starting any appliance needs a lot more energy than running that appliance.
Electrical items need a surge of power just to get them going.
Just like people do! With this in mind, do not start all your appliances at the same time. Start them up slowly.
This will reduce the wattage that you need in a backup generator.
It’s important to round up not down when you are calculating the size that you need. So if you think you need a 1900w generator, get a 2000-watt. This means you can add other appliances and will allow for things you did not think of like your daughter and friends must use hair straighteners during the emergency! These things happen more than you think.
If you start to get confused just ask a certified electrician to tell you what wattage you will need. He or she will just ask a couple of simple questions and then advise. Most will give this help without charging. Make a list of what you believe you need to use in an emergency. Then work out the wattage needs of these appliances. Check out the suppliers recommendations.
They will all usually have this information readily available, they are the experts so let them work for you. The only thing you really have to have is an idea of the items you want to run on the portable generator. Don’t forget cost of replacing all food in your freezer in your financial calculation. So many people make this mistake.
